OUR VISION
Our vision is to see lives transformed by God, the Church unified and the furthering of His Kingdom here on earth. We do our part in this by providing a space for God’s people to encounter Him in worship, to engage in an inclusive and welcoming community and to be encouraged and equipped to find their place to serve in the local church.

We believe the same God who encountered Abraham, Jacob and Moses, the same God who encountered Paul along the Damascus road, desires to encounter us today. That through the new and living way, the curtain that is Jesus body, we have access to the holy presence of God and that by His Holy Spirit, as we reverently wait on him in worship, He comes and meets us where we’re at for the purpose of drawing us to himself, transforming us through his word and sending us to the world.

We believe that God did not create humanity to be alone, but to exist in community. Through His Trinitarian nature, God paints the perfect picture of community. Being created in that image, we believe in creating a space for God’s people to engage in and connect with community. To not just be encouraged by their local church community, but be emboldened by the work God is doing in His broader church community. We believe that hospitality is a vital component of any community, as Jesus regularly ministered over the breaking of bread, each Ignite event will be characterised by first class hospitality, as we seek to engage in community.

We believe that God has equipped different members of the body with different gifts, not just for the edification of ‘a’ church, but the edification of ‘the’ church. Ignite exists to fulfill this call. To provide a space for all people to come and be fed. To receive Biblical teaching, leadership training, worship resourcing, community building and a genuine touch from God. We operate in this call that all who come might go back to their local church inspired and equipped to serve and invest in kingdom work wherever they have been called.
FAQ

Answers to some of your most common questions

Ignite Ministries began at the end of 2015 when a bunch of young adults from various Uniting churches gathered to host a young adults conference. After this conference, we felt a burden from the Lord to continue gathering the young adults of Adelaide for nights of worship and prayer but to open it up to all of the churches of Adelaide. In recent years we have also opened these events up to all ages as well; though we do see young adults (18-35) as the primary demographic in attendance. Though we began with Uniting church people, we have since diversified our team to include members from many Christian denominations, including Baptist, ACC, Acts 29 and more. Ignite Ministries is not associated with any one denomination. Our heart in this was to make our events as accessible as possible to all denominations, so we’ve decided not to affiliate with any one denomination. Some of the churches represented on our team include: Hills Baptist, Tree of Life, LIFE Adelaide, CityReach West, Journey Uniting, CityLight, Influencers, Encounter, Edge, Westbourne Uniting, CFC Seaton, Outpost Uniting and more.
Bringing all these different denominations together, we recognise a few things that have caused division in the past, such as the way we take communion, our beliefs on baptism or how we choose to govern the church. So we tend to stay away from these things that divide us (open-handed issues) and focus on the things that unite us. Every time you join us for Ignite events, there will be a strong focus on Jesus since He is the one thing that brings us all together. We do hold to the apostle's creed, but we’ve chosen not to specify our doctrine any further than this so that there wouldn’t be any barriers for people attending.

In our worship sets, we seek to lead people according to the biblical pattern: entering His courts with praise and thanksgiving, declaring the truth about who God is, celebrating our salvation and expecting an encounter with His holy Presence. We sing songs across many styles, genres and vintages so as to connect with the different denominations represented in the room. We also gather in small groups to pray for the Church of Adelaide and, beyond that, for our city. We intercede through prayer and song to finish the night and send people out with a hopeful and prophetic declaration. Our hope is that people would leave our events having a fresh touch from God and a fresh fire for Jesus burning in their hearts that would spread like wildfire through the church of Adelaide.

Ignite seeks to bring unity to the churches of our state. We recognise that we have far more that unites us than divides us. At Ignite, we celebrate the gathering of His Bride, where we lay down our denominational preferences for the glorification of the Son.

We provide space for God to encounter His people through worship and prayer. We provide space for relationships to be built between believers from different church communities with a heart to see us encouraging one another and sharing resources. We provide space for believers to be edified with solid, biblical teaching. It is our hope that all who come might go back to their local church inspired and equipped to serve and invest in kingdom work wherever they have been called.

Ignite exists to gather believers of all ages. While we tend to see a lot of young adults at our gatherings, our heart is to unite The Church of Adelaide across all generations. So no matter your age, if you’re someone who loves Jesus a lot or learning to love Him more, you are so welcome.
At our events, we’ll be “opening the doors” from 6pm. This first hour is for catching up with old faces and meeting new ones, for asking intentional questions about what God has been doing in the wider church and for seeking opportunities to build each other up in the faith - all while grabbing yourself a delicious warm beverage! From 7pm we’ll enter into a time of praise and worship, hear the Word proclaimed, respond to the promptings of Holy Spirit, receive prayer ministry, and intercede for our beautiful city, Adelaide.
Ignite is not a substitute for the local church - it never has been and never will be. Our heart in gathering the wider church is so that we might all receive a touch from God that propels us into building His Kingdom with renewed passion. We’re asking for a move of God that marks us for the days ahead and spurs us toward love and good deeds. Our prayer is that we leave our Saturday night events burning with a zeal for the house of God that spreads like wildfire through the church of Adelaide and beyond.
We don’t currently have a physical location. We host our events in locations all over Adelaide and partner with local churches and universities (mainly Tabor currently) to host rehearsals, meetings and prayer gatherings in-between events.
Dave Shepherd (Senior Pastor, Hills Baptist Church) is our spiritual oversight, along with a network of pastors from across Adelaide who partner with us in prayer and accountability.
